Nicholas Benson, a senior communication major, was arrested on Friday evening after police received reports that he was armed and had threatened to kill others.
According to Davis Police Department Lt. Paul Doroshov, a relative of Benson reported that he was distraught and suicidal. Officers found him at Fourth and A Street. He ignored commands to surrender, was tasered and taken into custody.
Benson is being charged with making terrorist threats, carrying a loaded weapon in a public place, obstructing and resisting a public officer and possession of an illegal assault weapon.
He is currently in the Yolo County Jail. Bail is set at $1 million.
