Picnic Day 2009 may be over, but for a core group of students, Picnic Day 2010 is just beginning.
On a Wednesday two weeks from now, this year's Picnic Day board of directors will meet to discuss and evaluate the success of the event, and also to begin preparing board reports with detailed information for next year's board to utilize.
"We meet to go over how everything went, and how anything can be improved for next year," said Christine Pham, chair of the Picnic Day committee and a senior economics major.
UC Davis music department assistant Susanna Peeples earned first place in the campus' annual Cow Milking competition held yesterday on the West Quad.
"It's completely unexpected," Peeples said of her win, which was only her second time milking a cow.
A mixed crowd of students and locals turned out to watch the event's two stars, Jersey dairy cows Buttercup and Marjorie, get a milking like no other.

While a majority of UC Davis students try to deny the existence of cows on campus, an animal science class has gone one step further in the opposite direction - owning their own dairy farm.
The class, ANS 124, focuses on the process of lactation in all mammals. Taught by Professor Russ Hovey during winter quarter, the class participated in a student-run project - inducing lactation and milk production in dairy cows with hormones to replicate pregnancy.
In the Apr. 13 edition of The California Aggie, the article "Spring Flings" incorrectly stated that the Rominger West Winery was in downtown Davis, but it is in fact on Second Street off of Mace Boulevard near Ikedas Fruit Stand. The article also stated that the winery offers complimentary tasting, which is incorrect. The article also misstated the winery's hours, which are actually 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. everyday. The Aggie regrets the error.

The warm spring sunshine means ripe citrus trees in Davis and a chance for the UC Davis Students for Sustainable Agriculture (SSA) to continue the fruit harvesting effort they began last year.
The project was informally started when Christie McCullen, a community and regional development graduate student, organized a bike trip around Davis to ask different residents for permission to pick ripe fruit from their citrus trees.
With a growing membership and recent big tournament win, the UC Davis Chess Team is on the rise.
Last month the club's team, the UCD Knights, prevailed as champions of the Sacramento Team Chess Championship. The tournament saw many of Northern California's best teams take each other on in a nail-biting competition. Eight teams competed in seven rounds of simultaneous games over a series of weeks.
