Club Hoppin’: International Relations Student Association

The International Relations Student Association (IRSAis the place to be for students looking for a laid back atmosphere to talk about current events, eat food from around the globe and learn about other cultures.

The club organizes weekly meetings and events that range from "coffee and newspaperswhere members meet at the International House to discuss current events and politics over coffee to international movie nights at an art deco movie theater in Sacramento.

Nobel laureate speaks at UC Davis

Nobel Laureate David Gross spoke on upcoming breakthroughs and experiments in theoretical physics at the Buehler Alumni center on Tuesday evening.

The main focus of Gross' lecture, "The Coming Revolutions in Fundamental Physics," was the highly-anticipated experiments and analyses of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), an internationally-funded machine build in Geneva, Switzerland.

UC Davis graduate student wins $10,000 environmental grant from Brita

UC Davis graduate student Kelly Garbach recently won a $10,000 grant from the Brita FilterForGood Ecochallenge to increase awareness about the importance of conserving the natural habitats within farmlands. Garbach's project focuses on community education about the importance of forests.

Restoring vision abroad

UC Davis Medical Center is one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation, and its doctors are able to give first-class care to patients in the Sacramento region. But for the past few years, a handful of Davis ophthalmologists and professors have extended their care to those in need worldwide through the ORBIS International Flying Eye Hospital.

Jewish ‘blessing over the sun’ to occur tomorrow

a special Jewish blessing over the sun, takes place once every 28 years.

It is believed in the Jewish faith that on Apr. 8, the sun will return to the exact position it held at the moment of creation. Rabbi Shmary Brownstein, of the Chabad of Davis, will perform the blessing at 8:30 a.m. on the UC Davis quad.

Making hope a reality

Early Saturday morning, students, faculty and community members flooded Toomey Field to kick off UC Davis' sixth annual Relay for Life. On the bleachers, candles spelling out the word "hope" set the theme for the 24-hour relay-style marathon event, which lasted from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. Students raised money for the American Cancer Society (ACS) to fund cancer research and advocacy.

Martha Wright, the vice president of the UC Davis chapter of ONE and a junior environmental sciences and management major,said she firmly believes that through ONE, every person's voice can make a difference.
