Column: To be 20

"Do something stupid over the next few days so you can blame it on being a teen," my friend, Slava, jokes days before I turn 20.

Column: All that glitters

The first thing Bob asked me when she walked in the door was, "Am I supposed to be the token Indian bisexual girl?"

Column: Slide on that slide, son

The funny thing about mistakes is you should be able to learn from them. You know, to avoid making the same mistakes again. I figure that's a pretty obvious fortune-cookie lesson in the world today. But then again, there's Mike Tyson.

Column: Real men fight bears

Every year, a frickload of Americans stock up on a lot of beer. They drink a lot of it while yelling at their TVs. This is the Super Bowl and they are men, dammit.

Column: Faking out gender

One negative stereotype of feminists is the panicked claim (usually by misinformed conservatives) that we hate children and families. Patently untrue as this is, as can be understood from feminist theory, I have anecdotal evidence to back me up: I, a feminist, just happen to love babies.

Editorial: Election controversy

In this week's ASUCD elections, a student filed a complaint against the Elections Committee for granting the usual 24-hour extension to executive candidates Sergio Blanco and Vishakha Patel. This complaint resulted in the court decision that Blanco and Patel should be removed from the ballot.

Letter to the editor

Column: V-Day everyday

I did the most cliché thing this Valentine's Day. I saw the movie Valentine's Day with my valentine. Don't laugh. It was actually kind of cute. It made me think about the day known all over for its pink and red hearts.

Column: Spring has sprung?

I wore a T-shirt and shorts this past weekend. I don't even remember the last time I wore a T-shirt and shorts. This only confirms to me that Punxsutawney Phil has lied again. Spring is a lot closer than he predicted. (Why do we use ground hogs to predict the weather anyway? They live in the ground. Why would they know anything?)

Column: Creepy Crawlies, Part I

On Nov. 2, 1841, a scientist named Berger sent a sealed envelope to the Academy of Science in Paris. When those at the academy opened the envelope, they found documents describing an organism living in the earwax of a man. Berger was the first scientist to describe a parasitic mite called the follicle mite (genus Demodex).

West Village annexation

After 10 years of discussion, Yolo County should agree to annex the West Village housing project to the city.

Guest opinion: Molly Tavella

Smoking is a thing of the past, right? I mean, everyone knows about the dangers of smoking now, right? Maybe yes, maybe no, but I think everyone needs to be reminded - especially college-age adults.
