Bakari Grant was a mess.
He strained a muscle in his foot. He kicked his shoe off. He put it back on. He ran out onto the field. He forgot his helmet. He went back for it. He lined up outside instead of in the slot.
Saturday's fanhood triathlon officially spanned 12 hours and seven minutes.
It was worth every second - especially the last one.
Greg Denham threw up a prayer.
Bakari Grant somehow came down with the answer.
With UC Davis trailing by two and as time expired, Grant sprinted downfield, turned his shoulder just past the goal line, dug his cleats into the artificial turf at Aggie Stadium and leapt into the air with four University of Northern Colorado defenders.

One of the aspects of the game of soccer that coaches stress is to score first to put pressure on the other team.
"Everybody who watches games knows that when you score the first goal, the game is much easier to play," head coach Dwayne Shaffer said.
UC Davis (9-1-1) did just that against Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (6-3-2) on Saturday to capture its first Big West Conference victory, 2-0, and to stay undefeated at Aggie Soccer Stadium this season.
After starting out the season red-hot, winning six of their first seven games, the Aggies went into the weekend in search of their first Big West Conference win.
The Aggies are still looking.
UC Davis fell to both Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and UC Santa Barbara, falling to 0-4 in conference and 8-9 overall.
Saturday the Aggies risked. And it paid off.
The men were led by junior Arran Rogerson's 25:34.2 clocking, good for fifth individually, as their depth helped them place a close second to Stanford University at the Doc Adams Open at the Putah Creek Reserve.

If Cy Williams were a professor and not a head coach, the UC Davis men's golfers may want to come see him in office hours.
They didn't grade out so well in their most recent performance.
Alice Kim was smokin' this week in Colorado.
The sophomore shot a school-record 67 on Monday, and followed that performance with a 4-under 68 on Tuesday to tie for second place at the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational.
