Opinion

Editorial: Fee hike waiting period

When the UC Board of Regents voted in November to raise student fees 32 percent - with part of the hike beginning spring quarter - students were justifiably angry.

Column: Best of DAVE-is

Somebody told me The Aggie ® is doing its "Best of Davis ©" piece soon. That same somebody also told me I couldn't fit in a ® or a © in my article. Well, I just did. So suck it.

Column: No parking

California is currently facing many challenges such as a stagnating economy, high unemployment, and massive state deficits. These are general and widespread issues that require the bulk of our government's attention. So what great dilemma does our state legislature try to tackle? You can thank your elected officials for making the gallant effort to eliminate the scourge of California citizens: free parking.

Column: Office hours

I've never attended office hours before. Just the thought of sitting alone in a room with a professor seems awkward to me. And frankly, I usually don't start assignments early enough to seek help.

Column: Tasty talk

Working at the Segundo Dining Commons is like being a Niners fan: It's great, but sometimes you just want to stick a fork in your eye.

Column: Swine flu surprises

I'm sitting with a large box of Kleenex in my right hand, Finding Nemo children's vitamins (I still take those - twice a day) in my left and a large bottle of Purell within reach of either hand. My body feels unbalanced - left nostril is runny, right nostril is dry - and my brain feels frozen.

Column: Jesus Hippie Chic

Caitlin is a contradiction.

Column: The political Debbie Downer

My disappointment in the government has put me in a worse mood than usual. It's even going to leak into my weekly column. I just don't feel like choosing between a myriad of issues to get angry about but ultimately be unable to resolve.

Editorial: Israeli food boycott

Members of the Davis Food Co-op are circulating a petition to boycott all Israeli products from the grocery store.

Editorial: UCSA march

The UC Student Association's march to the capitol is both a symbolic event and meant to please the students. At least four regents, the student regent-designate and UC President Mark Yudof expressed interest in attending the march.

Letters to the editor

If you are planning to graduate in 2011 (or after), we'd like to hear from you regarding what features of the UC Davis graduation ceremony are important to you.

Column: Ain’t no fun, probably

I was smoking an expensive cigar in my high-rise corner office, sifting through the piles of letters that accumulate on my desk. I came upon one asking for some advice. As you may remember, giving advice is only a part of what we do here at Long Industries. (The rest is sort of an import/export operation.)

Column: Schooling vs. education

Mark Twain is probably one of my favorite old dead guys. It was he who said, "I never let schooling interfere with my education." Within this quote lies the place where the distinction between the two categories of intelligence falls in line.

Column: The birds and the bees

Let me take you back to our younger years when life was simple. When we got to play on the jungle gym, paint with our fingers and make sticky messes.

Column: Boo to the booty pop

In this era of hair extensions, Bump-Its and the Booty Pop, I'd imagine it's difficult for those that pursue women to know what they're actually getting. Fortunately, this isn't a problem I have to deal with, but I feel for those that do.
